Diver's Jewel Philosophy

What every diver should know!

SSI programs provide an underwater experience that brings people together as they learn the value of communication and cooperation, above and below the surface. The SSI suite of programs is one of the most well-designed and tested diver education systems in the world. There are four distinct components to becoming a diver – the appropriate knowledge, skills, equipment and experience. We call this an SSI diver's gem.

Knowledge

Knowledge replaces anxiety and fear with correct information. There are several ways you can start an SSI program—traditional training, home study, or online training. The method you decide to take the program is not important because it will be taught in the same way using the SSI Integrated Learning system. During interactive review sessions, your SSI Dive Master will teach you how “land value” — what you learn out of the water — relates to “water value” — what you do with information in the water

Skills

The best way to learn basic and necessary skills is through correct and continuous repetition. The goal of repetition is to learn the skills well so that they can be performed automatically without thinking. This is the SSI signature of the water training method and approach: “Comfort through Repetition.” We believe that it is normal to take a lot of training and practice time to develop the skills required to become a comfortable and highly competent diver. Your SSI Dive Master will guide you through a series of comprehensive skill exercises for you to practice over and over again until you are able to do them instinctively and without having to think.

Equipment

We want you to be comfortable at every stage of your training. Therefore, an SSI diving professional will teach you the lesson as if you are going to become a professional diver investing in your own equipment. While the decision to invest in your own equipment is yours, our years of experience have taught us that the easiest way to become a professional diver is with your own suitable, high-quality integrated diving system. Understanding how to operate your own equipment ensures that you enjoy every minute of your dive rather than wasting time learning how to operate unfamiliar equipment. This will not only increase your diving ability but will also add confidence and comfort to your experience.

But if you decide not to purchase your own integrated diving system, the best way to start is by purchasing personal snorkeling equipment and your own exposure protection system. An SSI Dive Professional will work with you to help you carefully select the correct equipment that suits you.

Experience

While training develops knowledge and skills, the only way to gain real experience as a diver is to go diving! That's why SSI encourages you to do more open water dives during your training than the minimum number of dives required. The more you dive, the more you will enjoy this sport. So go out, explore new worlds, meet new friends and learn why diving with SSI Dive Center is considered “the ultimate diving experience.”
